'What do you use?' - Amy Huson

What do you use?- the most common question I hear from clients who frequent my chair… and I understand it. Like most things in our lives there is an over abundance of information floating in cyber space on ‘the best’, ‘the most effective’, ‘the healthiest’ hair care products. You just want a simple answer, so I have done my best to get that for you. Through this series, I ask my colleagues, friends and hair idols… “What do you use?”.

Now we are not physicians or biochemists, but we all spend a lot of time with hair. You can decide the credibility…

Next up… Amy Huson

AMY HUSON - @AMYHUSON_COLOR
HAIR COLORIST / RAMIREZ TRAN SALON

Named one of the country's top colorists by Allure magazine, Amy Huson is a balayage expert, known for recreating those natural and beautifully-blended highlights you look forward to after a summer spent in the sun. Using an artful freehand painting technique honed over a decade in New York and LA's top salons — including Marie Robinson and Serge Normant at John Frieda —  Huson is a master of beachy blonde. Yet, her rare talent for rich brunette tones shows a versatility that has made her a favorite among everyone from the country's top beauty editors to the world's biggest models, including Victoria Secret angels Candice Swanepoel and Andreea Diaconu, and Queen of Cool, Freja Beha Erichsen. In an increasingly fast-paced salon environment, Huson prides herself on spending whatever time it takes with her clients, to create color they love.

Amy’s Haircare Routine - in her own words

I don’t have a huge hair care routine, I’ve always preferred to be as low maintenance as possible. I think that has been the key to healthy hair for me.

I have very fine hair and it’s always been on the thinner side, especially after going through 2 pregnancies and births.

I try to only color my hair twice a year. I go back and forth with subtle, sunkissed highlights and a natural medium brown tone.

I shampoo about 5 times per week because my hair is also on the oily side.

I’ve been on a new routine with a hair growth treatment called Harklinikken. They are amazing and I’ve seen results in just the 6 weeks that I’ve been using it. I use their Balancing Shampoo and Daily Conditioner

I don’t heat style my hair. Instead, I let my natural texture come out by scrunching my towel dried hair with Sea Salt Air Dry Mousse from Kristin Ess. My hair has been half wavy and half straight since my last pregnancy and this really helps even out the texture and give wave to the straighter parts. I also use her Brunette Dry Shampoo. I originally tried her products when the stay at home rule went into place because I had left all my products in my salon. I have to say, I love them and like that they are so available to everyone.

On days that I don’t shampoo, I use the dry shampoo and some fun clips to get my quarantine bangs (which I’m now growing out) out of my face. I’m also a huge fan of headbands.

One styling product that I use after my hair has dried and I CANT live without is the Ouai Texturizing Hair Spray. The smell gets me tons of compliments, and I love what it does to the texture of my hair.
